Having already lost at Santa Rosa a month ago, the Falcons knew they had to improve their play to have a chance against the Big 8 Conference leaders in Tuesday’s rematch at Falcon Stadium. After a Britney Johnson breakaway goal in the 23rd minute, the Falcons looked primed to knock off the favored Bear Cubs. The Falcons continued to dominate possession time through the first half of play and had numerous shots on goal, but were unable to extend their lead. To their credit, the Bear Cubs made necessary adjustments at halftime and eventually scored the tying goal with just 12 minutes left to play. With the tie, the Falcons remain in fourth place in the Big 8 - just one point behind third - with a 5-3-2 conference record. They’ll host second-place Diablo Valley (6-1-3) on Friday at 3:30 pm in Falcon Stadium.
The Falcons continued their mid-season non-conference tour of the central valley with a Tuesday afternoon match at West Hills College (also the Falcons) in Lemoore. Unfortunately, things started off badly for FLC as they were called for an early foul in the box and the resulting penalty kick by West Hills made it 1-0 just three minutes into the match. FLC freshman Nick Potts tied the score ten minutes later on an assist from Miguel Medina, but there would be no more scoring in the first half. Early in the second half, FLC would fall behind once again as the result of a penalty kick in the 54th minute of play. To compound their problems, a red card (player ejection) put the visitors at a one man disadvantage for the rest of the match. West Hills capitalized in the 75th minute, making the final score 3-1. FLC (6-3-4) will hope to regroup for their home match on Friday against state #2 ranked Fresno City (10-0-4) at 6:00 pm.
