The SCC Panthers have won an unprecedented 6th straight BIG 8 Conference Championship by going undefeated for the 6th straight season. The Panthers dominated the competition, winning 36 of the 40 individual matches.
SCC 46 Delta 3
SCC started its quest for a 6th consecutive BIG 8 Conference title against SJ Delta College. The Panthers won 9 matches. SCC won four matches by fall in this match-up. Morgan Sauseda (133-Chico HS), Hunter Minton (149-Sutter HS), Derek Lee Loy (165-Moanalua HS, Hi) and Jerrad Kirk (285-Calaveras) all won by the fall and gaining six points each for the team. Todd Alexander (157-Elk Grove HS) picked up a major decision, while Joshua Vega (125-Oakmont HS) and Forrest Gray (197-Rosemont HS) both garnered decisions for wins. Delta also forfeited two weights to round the final score out to 46-3 in favor of the Panthers.
SCC 54 Shasta 0
Sacramento City College wrestling traveled to Shasta College in Redding for the second Big 8 match of the season. Sacramento extended their 5 plus years winning streak with a 54-0 victory. Joshua Vega and Jason Stokkeland each had a fall in the victory. SCC is now 5-1 on the season and 2-0 in the BIG 8.
SCC 45 Sierra 3
Sac City hosted Sierra and won 9 of 10 matches for a 45-3 BIG 8 win. The Panthers move to 6-1 on the year and 3-0 in the BIG 8. One step closer to a 6th straight Championship. Daniel Larman and Trevor Wright both had pins for SCC. We also picked up decisions from Ray Angeles, Forrest Gray and Isaac Mendoza. Joshua Vega, Hunter Minton, Todd Alexander, and Niko Chapman all won by forfeit. It was great to see all the fans and more so, two former Panther State Camps and SCC Hall of Farmers, Leo Woodfork (1987) and Mark Loomis (1980).
SCC 43 Lassen 6
Sac City traveled to Susanville to wrestle Lassen College for the BIG 8 Conference Championship. The Panthers won 8 of 10 matches to win 43-6 and earn their 6th consecutive BIG 8 Title.
SCC had falls by Niko Chapman (FR 174) and Trevor Wright (SOPH 184). Jerrad Kirk (FR 285) had a major decision and Hunter Minton (SOPH 149) had a decision. 4 other Panthers won by fall.
Leading the way for the SCC team were three wrestlers who went 4-0. They are:
Joshua Vega at 125, Hunter Minton at 149 and 157 as well as Trevor Wright at 184. Trevor was undefeated in the BIG 8 last year as well and has either pinned, Tech falled or got a Forfeit in each match. No one has gone the distance with him.
Niko Chapman (174), Forrest Gray (197), Jerrad Kirk (285) and Daniel Larman (157 & 165) all went 3-0 on the season.
Devon Silva (141) and Todd Alexander (157) both went 2-0 while Morgan Sauseda (133) went 3-1.
All of these young men should be up for 1st or 2nd team All-Conference.
